Taxonomy Validation for Chorematic Diagrams
1Reimer, A.; 2Mackaness, W.
Recent years have seen an upswing in the research on schematised maps in general and chorematic diagrams in particular. In order to facilitate automated map generation, it has proven helpful to utilise taxonomies further specifying input and output requirements. These taxonomies have so far been based on observation and experience, without statistical validation. We present our results for validating the extant taxonomy for chorematic diagrams both as corroboration of previous work as well as an example of how analysis of a thematic map series can be undertaken in general. We focus on graphical and geometric properties of chorematic maps and show that the earlier taxonomy is statistically verifiable.
